Water System Pressure Tank Settings
According to well x trol bladder type well tank air precharge.
Water system pressure tank settings. Release or add air as necessary to make the pressure 2 psi below the pressure switch pump cut in setting. So for example with a 30 50 pressure switch factory default setting air pressure in the tank will equal 28psi. One of the most essential components that make up a modern well system is the pressure tank which is responsible for several important functions such as maintaining system pressure. Prior to operation with the tank empty of water the pressure should be 2psi below the cut on pressure.
Locate the pressure switch limits which are located inside the pressure switch cover. T hroughout history humans have relied on water wells as a primary means of accessing potable water. Find a water valve close to the pressure tank and open it to drain water out of the tank until the pump kicks on. Air can be added with a compressor or bicycle pump.
The lower number is the turn on point for the tank to bring in more water and the higher number shuts the pump off. When the pressure in the tank reaches the pre determined cut off pressure setting the switch will alert the pump to cease delivering water to the pressure tank. A pressure tank for a well is a necessity for any home that uses well water. Pressure switch limits are different on different types of pressure tanks such as 20 to 40 lbs psi 30 to 50 lbs.
From there the water passes into the pressure tank which is a second holding tank connected to a jet pump that keeps the water pressurized. Typical factory set air pressure on a bladder type residential well water tank is 18 psi. When you open a kitchen faucet to fill yourself a glass of water or step into a relaxing shower pressurized water is delivered to the tap or showerhead on demand. The pressure switch setting is the pressure at which the pump turns on to fill the tank up and the pressure at which the pump shuts off knowing the tank is full.
If the pressure switch is adjusted to 40 60 the cut on pressure will be 38psi. Click to enlarge any image factory air pressure settings in the water pressure bladder tank. The three pressure switch settings for pressure tanks are 20 40 30 50 and 40 60. In a typical setup a shallow or deep well pump transfers groundwater to a holding tank.
For example if you have a pressure switch setting of 30 50 psi you pressure measured at the top of the tank should read 28 psi. Check pressure in the tank with your pressure gauge. Note the psi setting on the pressure gauge when the pump turns on.
